Stamp collecting is a life-long hobby for art enthusiasts, traders and hobbyists alike. Much depends upon the quality of the stamps and to preserve your collection, you'll also need some stamp collecting supplies.

Archival stockbooks, stamp albums and computer organizer software are stamp collecting supplies that help collectors organize, maintain and protect the stamps. Archival stockbooks are made up of stiff pages with pockets where stamps can be set, without using any kind of hinge or adhesive. This can be good for the person who likes to rearrange or find an inexpensive option for keeping duplicate or lesser important stamps.

The best option for professional hobbyists looking to maintain more valuable stamps is an album -- either pre-printed or blank. Kids and beginners often love the pre-printed albums because they provide informative descriptions about particular stamps and give them something to aspire to with their collection.

Online software is good for traders. It's advisable to look for programs that will scan and separate a full sheet into individual files, since this is a great time saver.

The next thing to purchase facilitates the affixing of the stamps into your album. Stamp Hinges are small rectangular pieces of paper coated with a sticky gum. Collectors are encouraged to buy "peel-able" hinges to prevent damaging hinge marks on them. After lightly moistening the hinge, affix the short end to it and the long end to the page, which will allow interested buyers to examine the back of the stamp without completely unsticking it.

Collectors should never use glue or tape to affix them! In fact, unhinged ones are ideal but exceedingly rare. Metal Stamp Tongs are used by philatelists to hold them without getting finger oils on them.

Varieties include length (ranging from 4-8 inches) and tip (shovel or pointed). Pointed tips are great for intricate positioning but can also tear the stamp so the shovel tips are more practical.

The third category of supplies deals with examination. A Magnifying Glass (with a lens power of 3-4) reveals subtle imprints, color and watermarks. Serious philatelists will purchase a Perforation Gauge and a Watermark Detector to really get a good look. Perforation Gauges measure the holes between two or more of them, which can sometimes reveal a rare stamp from an ordinary one, or a unique stamp from one a collector already has in his or her collection.

It is used by sliding the gauge along a stamp and reading the "perf number" once the holes are aligned. A Watermark Detector will alert collectors to unique markings, rare ones or even clever forgery attempts. Just like money, stamps have hidden designs, invisible to the naked eye, that guarantee authenticity. Some collectors choose to use black trays and Benzine droppers to view watermarks.

The last category is informational. Magazines, books and catalogs can be a great source of knowledge as to what the market offers and how one's collection stacks up. The stories regarding many of them is rather amazing and can make a great archival paragraph to keep in the collection!

Stamp collecting supplies are crucial regardless of whether you are a beginner buying the first album, hinges and magnifying glass -- or a professional purchasing a perforation gauge, watermark detector and collecting software.

Those who own an antique table are usually very proud of their item and want to take care of it the best they possibly can. Other than storing it somewhere sensible where it's not going to be constantly touched and bumped into, the best thing an antique table owner can do is keep it clean.

Some people are reluctant to polish their table because they are scared that the product may damage it. It is important to take precautions with the products you are using but there are also plenty of safe cleaning methods that you can adopt.

If you are completely clueless when it comes to choosing which products to use it is advisable to go see an antique dealer or expert first. They will advise you on what the best products are and what you definitely should not use.

Before cleaning their antique table a lot of people use an oily soap first to get off any layers of wax that may be on it. It will now be ready to polish and to seal with wax in order to protect it from damage. A lot of people swear by metal polish instead of the normal wood polish and think it actually works better. Be careful though because you never know how your wood will react. A good tip is to test a small amount on a part of the table that isn't visible in case it has a bad reaction.

Many people choose to use bees wax to polish their antique table. This is because it is non toxic and therefore will not cause any damage to your table. You should be able to find it at any store which makes it a safe and easy way of cleaning your item. Be sure to use a soft cloth to clean your antique table otherwise you may end up scratching it which if you go on to sell it could significantly lower its value.

Surprisingly, an antique table is fairly easy to maintain as they don't need much cleaning very often. One good clean and wax will last for a long time. Doing this frequently is unnecessary and may even start to damage the table over time. A simple dust from time to time with a damp cloth is all it needs and is even how the experts and antique shop owners choose to clean their antique tables.

Conquest House is a beautiful treasure house with a wide variety of antiques for every pocket. http://www.conquesthouseantiques.co.uk has all you need from the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian to Early Twentieth Century ages.

For online information on postage stamps, hobbyists can check catalogs like Scott's, societies like the American Philatelic Society, authentication centers like the Postal Stamp Experts, or buying and selling auctions like eBay. The best way to further your love of stamp collecting is to immerse yourself by taking advantage of every possible resource available. Read on for some noteworthy suggestions on how to get started.

The first stop for serious stamp collectors who are looking to buy or sell should be a catalogue. The most popular reference guide is the Scott's Catalogue, but Stanley Gibbons, Minkus and the US Postal Service Catalogue of Stamps also make great resources.

You can check out Scott Online site for the internet version of the Scott's Catalogue. The internet version is available ten days prior to the print version and is emailed directly to you.

Searching options go back three issues of Scott Stamp Monthly to help you to find what you're looking for and you'll be able to connect with advertisers immediately, instead of having to phone or mail them with your inquiries. Subscribers can also customize their online edition by picking which columns they'd like listed first in their issues and by choosing "Text" or "Newspaper" format for easy reading. Separate Print and online magazine subscriptions are available.

The second stop on your way to entrenching yourself in the philatelic community and obtaining information is to check out The American Philatelic Society . Here you can browse over 270,613 items and search by country, type, keywords, Scott Catalogue number, country and its type, country and keyword, its type and keyword, or Stamp ID number.

You needn't be a member to browse, but if you'd like to purchase them or get personal stamp information, you must become a member. Additionally, APS encourages members to get more involved in the philatelic community by listing activities and has a mentor program to answer all your collecting questions directly.

You may want to find the exact worth on postage stamps -- or if you want to sell an expensive stamp, you'll need a certificate of authenticity. The APS offers an "expertizing service" utilizing high-tech equipment and over 140 specialists. They charge $25 on stamps worth under $1,000 or 2% of higher value stamps.

The next place to check for information is eBay and Craigslist, where buyers and sellers meet to trade. For an advanced and exhaustive international database, try eBay. On the other hand, Craigslist is a localized site connecting individuals.

There are pros and cons to all online trading sites, but sometimes it's just enjoyable to browse what's offered. Generally it's an inexpensive way to bolster your collection or a good way to find that rare stamp.

King George V was a renowned stamp collector. He once remarked as he appointed an Official Philatelist to the King, "But, remember, I wish to have the best collection, not just one of the best collections in England." It was found in a letter by Sir Harold Nicholson, that for seventeen years King George V locked himself up and only "killed animals and stuck in stamps."

Whether you're certifiably crazy about stamps or you'd just like some more information on postage stamps, there are a number of resources to obtain that perfect collection that even King George V would have envied.

Over 100 years of triumphs, disappointments and culture can be found in stamps from China. From the original "Dragon" collection, to Mao Zedong stamps, to the $2,550 Anna Nizam Charminar stamp, you'll be dazzled by the stories told in such poignant images. Here you'll find a description of a few of the valuable and culturally significant China stamps.

Overprints of China stamps were common during the early 1900s. An overprint is the addition of text after a stamp has already been printed (usually to raise the price in relation to inflation). Because of the ever-changing economy, some stamps from that time period -- such as the Sun Yat-sen -- rose in value up into the thousands of dollars.

In November 1952, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication released a set of four stamps to commemorate "the 35th Anniversary of the October Revolution." The October Revolution (also known as The Bolshevik Revolution) was led by Vladimir Lenin's Bolshevik party and the workers' Soviets and eventually overthrew the government, making way for the USSR. They were issued in celebration of the friendship between China and the Soviets.

The first stamp had a picture of China's Mao Zedong with Stalin on the Kremlin tower; the second one portrayed Lenin making a speech at the Second Representatives Conference of the Soviet Unions; the third one pictured a statue of Stalin standing at the Lenin Canal; the fourth showed Lenin making a speech. In 1997, a set of these stamps was sold at the Spring Auction of Jiade for $55,000 RMB.

One of them issued from the collection "To Mark the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base by Chairman Mao" was recently sold at an auction in Shaghai for $1.5 Million RMB (or roughly $199,880 USD). There were originally four stamps issued, including: Chairman Mao and Lin Biao at Tian An Men, Chairman Mao and his party in Jing gang Shan, the quotation "The political power comes from guns," and another verse by Chairman Mao.

The Jianggangshan base become the birthplace of the Chinese Red Army and is often called "the cradle of the Chinese Revolution." In addition to the historical significance of these commemorative China stamps, the controversy surrounding the issuance caused an uproar. Production was canceled and specimens were called to be destroyed.

Therefore, the Jinggangshan ones never made it to circulation and only a very small number exist in the hands of private collectors. In September 1968, after the establishment of Cultural Revolution Revolutionary Committees, the Ministry of Posts issued the "All China Is Red" stamp.

It pictured a red ocean, with workers, farmers and soldiers holding "the Quotations of Chairman Mao" and cheering; at the top, a red map of China with golden letters read "All China Is Red." They were issued in Beijing for half a day before the China Atlas Press discovered that the Xisha and Nansha archipelagoes were mistakenly missing from the map!

Due to its extremely limited number, the "All China Is Red" is one of the most famous rare ones in the world. Ten years ago, a post office sheet of 50 was displayed at the China Philatelic Expo in Guangzhou City and was considered a "national treasure," valued at over 10,000,000 RMB.

While there is said to be about 18 million stamp collectors in China, there are millions of members in the Chinese Philatelic Society. The government is eager to begin trade with other stamp collectors, so the stamps are readily available worldwide.

Ebay has a list of stamps from Asia and China stamps can also be found at the Chinese Philatelic Information site or Chinese Stamps site. Whether you're looking for dragons or emperors, you'll find it in China!

Ebay stamps have made stamp collecting an affordable hobby. Often times, one can find great deals at a fraction of the cost -- with some stamps costing as little as one cent! Additionally, stamps can be traded or sold on the site as well, giving their collectors the ultimate target market to maximize profits.

With bids starting as low as one cent, it's crazy not to check out the Ebay stamps page! To get started buying stamps on Ebay, just register, browse the categories or type keywords into the search engine.

When you find an item you like, place a bid and select maximum amount you're willing to spend, then Ebay will bid on your behalf against other bidders. Or you can choose the "buy it now" option and you'll have to pay the - buy it now price - to avoid all competition. Buyers can pay with a credit card, checking account, mail or through PayPal.

Curious people, who may not necessarily have the desire to buy at this time, can still obtain information on them by following one of several links the Ebay stamps page provides:

1) the American Philatelic Society,
2) the PSE authentication center,
3) the American Stamp Dealers Association or industry publications.

The education and popular stamp terms pages host a wealth of information for beginners. For the committed hobbyist, a whole community is created to share one's passion -- with stamps chat rooms, stamps seller alerts or newsletters, as well as collectibles forums.

For sellers, Ebay stamps attract the perfect target market and allows online bidding (much like an auction) so sellers may actually make more money than their asking prices! The process is relatively simple too. First, the seller will have to look around and decide what to sell. After registering, prospective sellers just upload photos and descriptions of their items, turn on email notifications and wait for the bidding to start.

Sellers can get paid immediately by PayPal, track all listings through the "My Ebay" section and even print labels and postage from their personal computers. Bulk listing and management tools make it easy to track one's offers.

Some people may choose to open an Ebay store, which gives them email marketing, free reporting and lower fees. Ebay also offers free business consulting to help new members get started. Whether collecting or selling, Ebay is a great starting point!

Ebay is the perfect way to add to your collection. However, be aware that Ebay may not be for everyone. You will have to enter some sensitive information into Ebay's secured site, with which not everyone is comfortable.

Since sellers are from all over, buyer beware! Check out the seller's credentials and ratings before buying. There are certain protections on Ebay, but it's not infallible. You may also have to wait a long time for your investment to arrive in the mail.

Ebay stamps can increase the size and quality of your collection ten-fold -- of course, in some ways, it's not as easy as just buying at an actual auction or store.

Catalogs are a safe bet, whether you want to buy postage stamps, sell or appraise your collection. Stamp collecting and trading has captured America's heart and millions of collectors for over a century.

For the every day collector who can't wait for the next auction, a Scott's catalog can fill the void in one's collection. Additionally, the APS, Stanley Gibbons, Kenmore Stamp and the US postal service offer catalogs for your enjoyment.

Scott's Catalogue is a world-renowned philatelic reference for people who want to buy postage stamps and sell or appraise their collection. Annual subscriptions for this 5,000 page pamphlet cost as little as $18.97 for six months or as much as $98.97 for three years. Subscribers can choose between print or online, or even receive both for a small price! The Scott's Catalogue numbering system is how most collectors categorize their collections, so it's not uncommon to refer to an "Inverted Jenny" simply as "C3a."

The American Philatelic Society has a database of over 270,613 items that you can search by country, type, keywords, Scott Catalogue number, country and its type, country and keyword, its type and keyword, or Stamp ID number. You needn't be a member to browse, but if you'd like to buy postage stamps or get personal stamp information, you must become a member. Membership fees go toward publishing their monthly journal and costs range from $11.75/year to $38, depending on when you register (July - September is best).

The first Stanley Gibbons catalogue was published in 1865 and since then, they've been a leading resource for collectors looking to get postage ones from Great Britain or elsewhere, with the exception of the United States. You can find a $181,575 first day black cover from Great Britain (1840), an unused 1847 one from Tobago for $8,070, or 1 1913 "kookaburra" one from Australia for $80.

This is the place to find a rare stamp or special gem for your collection. It should also be noted that in addition to the free online catalogue, Stanley Gibbons also offers personal, web-based stamp "My Collection" organization where you can keep an online database of your collection.

Kenmore Stamp Company from Buffalo, NY has been in operation since the 1930s and offers a wide array of them from $10-20, Pope John Paul II and Lord of the Rings souvenir sheet types to $195, first Trans-Atlantic crossing / Zeppelin flight covers, $3,900 red-brown 5 cent Franklin imperforates and mint 10 cent Washington blacks for $16,000! This is a great place to acquire them, whether you're a beginner or expert philatelist.

The United States Postal Service puts out an annual catalog where you can find all the commemorative and press sheet stamps put out each year. At Shop USPS, you can order the full catalog or just browse a few categories. Buy 20 Marvel comic ones for $8.20, a 79-cent Gerald Ford one or an uncut Star Wars press sheet for $18.45.

There are decent prices for first-time collectors. Whether you'd like to purchase postage stamps with pop culture themes as gifts or collectibles, you can find them here.

Many people buy postage stamps through legitimate catalogs to safeguard their investments and receive some sort of guarantee of authenticity. However, beginners might find it more advantageous to collect stamps online through an auction site like eBay, where bids start as low as one cent.

Trading stamps through catalogs isn't free, which is why other internet sites seem to have such an enormous selection on hand.

Everyone would agree that antique furniture looks great and is a unique way of decorating any home. The only problem with it is that it can be a worry if something is spilt on it or a mark has been left on it. It is important to clean it in the correct way but just because something has been spilt it doesn't mean that the furniture is ruined.

One method is to de - grease the area to get any old dirt and marks cleaned off the antique furniture. White wine vinegar is a common ingredient used to get rid of drink marks but should only be applied using a soft cloth. Any other material may scratch and damage the table. Once the white wine vinegar has dried it is advisable to use a colourless beeswax furniture polish to get your antique furniture looking as good as new.

A popular tip that many people claim to work the best is to rub the stain away. It is important to be very careful when following this tip as antique furniture is delicate and should be handled with care. Put some degreaser or wax remover on the stain and then get the finest quality sandpaper that you can find. Fold the sandpaper so the rough side is on the inside - this is very important or the table will get damaged. Rub the area quite hard and fast and this should remove the stain. Afterwards use beeswax furniture polish to make the area blend in with the rest of the furniture again.

With this method a lot of people find that the area they have been rubbing becomes lighter that the rest of the furniture. If this happens it is easily rectified by polishing the furniture with a wax that has the appropriate stain in it. After it has dried no - one will even notice the difference.

If nothing is working then it is possible to gently rub the marked area with a very mild metal cleaner. However this is not recommended unless the person has had experience doing this and really knows what they are doing. After it has dried, gently rubbing with a beeswax polish will restore the antique furniture to as good as new.

When trying to get stains off antique furniture it is important to take the greatest care as this kind of furniture is delicate and is often quite expensive.

A lot of people struggle when it comes to deciding how to decorate their bedrooms as trends come and go so quickly that it's hard to keep up. However, a classic trend that is becoming increasingly popular and never goes out of date is to have antique bedroom furniture.

There are so many reasons why this has become a popular option so it's hardly surprising that so many people are doing it now. Firstly, it's a unique way of decorating your room and making it a bit special. Furniture packs from stores can look good but there's nothing different about them and changes are that your neighbours' bedroom looks almost identical. However, by using antique bedroom furniture you can guarantee that your room will have a twist from everyone else's as antiques are either rare or one offs.

If you get bored of the way that your room is decorated then you can easily move the furniture around the house to display your antique goods. Normally bedroom furniture anywhere in the house other than they bedroom would look very strange. However, if they are antique it is a great way of decorating in an unusual way.

You don't have to worry about your room going out of style when using antique furniture either. Modern trends go in and out of fashion so fast that it's pretty much impossible to keep up. This can end up becoming very expensive if you are a strict follower of trends and like to keep up with the latest styles. However, with antique furniture you can guarantee that it will never go out of fashion as it's a classic style.

Finding bedroom furniture can be a mundane and boring task that many people dread. Walking around furniture shops can be very boring and everything starts to look the same after as well. However, if you decorate your room with antique furniture you can have plenty of fun going out to find it. Auctions are a great way of finding unusual pieces that you won't find anywhere else and as long as there isn't a bidding war for the piece you can pick up some bargains.

With so many advantages of having antique bedroom furniture it is hardly surprising that so many people are choosing to decorate their rooms this way. It is unlikely that there is any other way to decorate your room in such a unique and special way.

Selling antiques through online classified ads is the best way to guarantee nationwide exposure and generate interest in the items that you are trying to sell. According to the US Customs Service, an antique is an item that is at least 100 years of age or older, but the term antique is sometimes used more loosely, depending on the audience, but anything with collectible value can be considered an antique.

The first thing to determine when you are preparing to sell an antique item on an online classified ad is the value of the item or items that you are selling. There are many appraisal services that exist for these purposes, but one way that you can detect flaws at home is with a black light. Black lights can also reveal telltale signs of age. Porcelain, glass, reproduction glass, works of art, and old books and papers are often put under a black light for this purpose.

However you decide to have your antique items appraised, be sure to do your research before composing your online classified ad. Search out similar items being sold, noting their price and condition, and if you can not find an item similar to yours, research it in an antique appraisal book. Keep in mind that the price you may be willing to pay for a certain item may not be the price that someone else may be willing to pay, particularly if your item has any cosmetic damage or missing part. If your item is one that is commonly collected, then you should price it at as such.

Once you are ready to write the ad, be sure to include an eye catching title. Instead of Rocking Chair, try Antique 1890s Rocking Chair in near mint condition or similar. Include as much information as possible about the item, being honest about any imperfections and flaws, while at the same time making sure to highlight the best features of the item. Keep in mind that shipping and handling charges can become very costly, so you may want to consider including the shipping cost in the price of the item, or at the very least, negotiate the shipping terms with the buyer and be sure to get them in writing in case of any later disputes.

Selling antiques with online classified ads can be very profitable, and is a great way to turn some of those forgotten family heirlooms into money making treasures.

There are many different ways in which people are able to sell antique furniture. This means that it is important that if you find yourself in this position to weigh up the pros and cons of each so you can get the best deal. If you are in a rush and are hasty you could find that you could have made so much more money if you had been patient.

One method of selling antique furniture is through a dealer. There are many advantages of this method including the fact that you can be assured that the person knows what they are talking about. These people are experts and will be able to help you get the best price for your piece. Once you have sold to a dealer you can be guaranteed that you have the money regardless of whether they can sell it on or not. Other methods such as auctions can be risky as there is no guarantee that your antique furniture will sell.

A disadvantage of selling through a dealer is that they are going to sell your piece on for more than they bought it for. Although this is common practice and most people understand that this is the dealer' way of making money, it can be disheartening and frustrating if they get a lot more than what they paid you for it.

You may choose to sell your antique furniture at an auction which has many different advantages. You don't run the risk of selling to a dealer and them then getting a lot more for it, you are in control of where and when you sell it and if a bidding war starts for your item then you can make a fortune.

However, you do run the risk that your item won't sell and even if this happens you still have to pay a fee. There are also quite a lot of charges involved with selling at an auction. Typically 15 percent of your selling price will be taken as commission, there will be insurance charges, catalogue photograph and a handling charge. This means that the final amount you receive may be a lot less than you expected.

In order to avoid all the charges many people choose to sell privately. Many people like this option because it means they get the full asking price without any deductions being taken. However, there are disadvantages of selling your antique furniture this way.

Unless you are an expert it is unlikely that you will know how much your piece is really worth. You could be asking for a lot more than people will pay in which case it won't sell. Alternatively you may be asking for a lot less in which case you could have lost out on a lot of money. It is also important to be careful where you put your address and telephone number as anyone will be able to see it.

Are you an avid movie poster collector, are you looking for movie posters to decorate your walls or are you just a casual movie poster shopper?

To give you a little bit of background, the modern movie poster was brought into existence by Jules Cheret and he is considered to be the father of this medium.

Without knowing, Jules Cheret kicked off something big. That something is movie poster collecting.

The movie poster is a very powerful promotional tool. Think of the excitement it stirs when you see one displayed at your local movie theater. The visual image of the movie to come is burned into your mind reminding you of your desire to actually see it.

Movie posters are designed by movie studios to build awareness about a film by utilizing the visual reach and attraction of this advertising medium. Individual posters conveying the essence of a movie have found immense popularity among the masses. As hard as it is to admit for some people, this is a new and different genre of art.

The vintage poster market in France was made popular back in the 1970s. This has made them long in demand by collectors. This has also thrusted this hobby across various countries making it popular worldwide.

If you are a movie poster collector, there are a few points to keep in nine when adding a new piece to your collection.

* The poster has to be in demand.
* The movie should either be a classic or currently popular.
* The poster absolutely has to be in good physical condition.
* Not only to remember him, the more aware of the poster of the more valuable.

One of the most important things movie poster collectors should do is ensure that the condition of the poster is retained in as good of condition as possible. Never roll up your poster and slap a rubber band around it. Rubber bands tend to decay and will damage the material.

Never store your movie poster anywhere that may have a large amount of light, heat or humidity. This will cause a poster to deteriorate rapidly.

Try to keep your movie posters laid flat in a cool and dry place when they are new. This will allow them to dry out thoroughly. If you flatten out the poster between two pieces of material immediately after purchase, think ink will stick to the upper piece of material and damage the poster.

Your best bet is to store the poster between two pieces of low acid foam boards. This will greatly slow down the process of deterioration. This will keep your posters in as close to original condition as possible for a long period of time.

If your intent is to frame the poster, ensure that you have it matted. When a picture is matted, it is kept away from the glass of the actual picture frame. This keeps the ink from being heated and sticking the glass. Also, ensure that the backboard is acid-free. Another good idea would be to make certain that the glass in the picture frame is resistant to ultraviolet light.

Let me point you towards some ways that you can track movie posters. The Movie Poster Price Almanac magazine is excellent for tracking various auctions, exhibitions and museum collections. You can also find a massive amount of online collector guides as well.

For the casual collector or someone looking to put up a little bit of inexpensive wall art, the movie poster is the perfect way to go. It is easy to find popular movie posters. There are a slew of online vendors.

The casual display of your movie poster is easy. I wouldn't recommend thumb tacking it to the wall. A way too make a nice presentation would be to purchase a cheap glass frame from your local hobby shop. You should be able to find an inexpensive frame for less than $10.

The frame will make all the difference in your display. It will also preserve your movie poster. When it is thumb tacked or taped to the wall, a little breeze can rip the edges of your poster. In time, it will look awfully ragged.

Movies posters are not just for collectors as I've pointed out in the last few paragraphs. Many people consider them a visually appealing decoration. Another great thing about them is that not all movie posters are expensive. The market is full of inexpensive options.

So sit down behind your computer, grab your credit card and scour the Internet for that perfect movie poster.

William "Cole" Doggett is a movie addict. You will find a movie poster on every wall in his home. Stop by the Movie Posters website at http://www.movieposters.empire-cole.com to find a massive selection of posters including movies, music, nature, horror and a slew of other cool wall art!

Coin collecting has been a favorite hobby for millions of American for many years. The favorite of all countries is American coins.

Perhaps this is so because of all the coins that can be collected, the American coins have a great deal of diversity.

American coins were first produced in the eighteenth century when the first mint was established in an old brewery. Since then, collectors have been seeking out vintage coins of all denominations.

The most sought after and most expensive of all American coins is the American eagle gold Saint Gaudens $20 gold piece created in 1934. This is because of the rarity of the coin.

Pennies - the first penny was created in 1793. All pennies of this era were created out of copper.

Dimes - the first dime was created in 1796 and featured the liberty head on the front and an eagle on the back. There have been 6 different styles of dimes.

Nickels - the first nickel was created in 1866. The nickel has a very diverse history, having had many different makeovers, each according to the politics of the times.

These are just some of the American coins that can be collected. The value of these coins depends on the age and condition of the coin.

Coins that exhibit mistakes such as double stamping are just as valuable as vintage coins. It is important that you inspect all of your coins to insure that they are indeed worth collecting.

Coin dealers are specially trained to evaluate and price each coin that they examine. They are experts in their field and are usually accurate in their estimation.

If you are looking for a specific American coin, you can consult your local coin dealer. They usually have knowledge of who possesses the type of coin you are seeking and what the cost will be.

Another method of finding vintage American coins is to do an online search. This method will yield millions of results at a click of a mouse. It is, however, very important that you exercise caution when using the Internet as there are a lot of unscrupulous people who will try to deceive you. The most recommended method is to consult a coin dealer to assist you.

Coin collecting can be a very exciting and rewarding hobby. Millions of people have become obsessed with collecting vintage coins, not only for their value, but also because of the history that is behind each one.

Being a numismatist, Alex Olson is fond of collecting american coins. In her articles at http://www.centralamericancoins.com she shares her experience and gives some tips on coin collecting.

Books can be a fascinating type of treasure. Most books bought in America today cost between one and five dollars apiece, but there are books in the world that have been sold for over one hundred fifty thousand dollars.

These books are called "rare" books, and many men spend their lives collecting, buying and selling them. The bookdealers and auctioneers classify them as scarce, rare, very rare, exceedingly rare, or "excessively rare." If a large number of people want to buy a particular book and there are not many available, it becomes classified as one of the rare books. Dr. Abraham S. W. Rosenbach, a famous rare-book collector, paid one hundred fifty-one thousand dollars for a copy of the Bay Psalm Book printed in 1640.

Age alone does not make a book valuable. The reason the Bay Psalm Book is interesting to collectors is not its age, but because it was the first book printed in the American colonies. There are many older books in the world, but a "first" in any connection is a point of interest in book collecting.

The Gutenberg Bible was published in 1455. It was the first edition of the first book ever printed from movable type. The fifteenth century was called the "cradle of printing." Any book printed during this period is cherished.

There are books we know were printed, but of which no copies are known to exist. If you found one of these books it would be "most exceptionally rare"!

Autographs add to the interest and value of books. The more famous the name written in the front of a book, the more highly it is valued. But make certain that it is in the man's own handwriting. Some men wrote their names all the time and so their autographs are less sought after than those that are seldom found.

One rare-book treasure was found in a New York shop by the actor John Drinkwater. It was a copy of Moby Dick, by Herman Melville, presented by the author to Nathaniel Hawthorne and inscribed with Hawthorne's name!

The first appearance of a well-loved book has importance to collectors. These "first editions" are greatly sought after.

Sometimes the books have appeared first in magazines and then been issued in book form. Only the books are treasures. Old newspapers and magazines are often interesting but only occasionally are they valuable.

Look up in your attic. If your great-great-great-grandfather kept the Analectic Magazine dated November, 1814, you do have a treasure. In it first appeared a poem by Francis Scott Key called "Defense of Fort McHenry." Sounds unfamiliar? It begins, "Oh say, can you see by the dawn's early light . . ." It was set to music as "The Star Spangled Banner."

Occasionally a book that is marked "second edition" is really a "first." The printers probably marked it this way to give the impression that the author's work was widely read. One of these books is Edgar Allan Poe's Poems.

Sometimes when a book is printed the type is kept standing. Then, if the book sells well, it is re-issued from the same type.

This second issue of a book is not as valuable as the first. How can you tell? There may be a fading out in the letters. Occasionally, the author has changed a line.

If you have a copy of the Songs of Hiawatha, look at page 32, line 11.

Does it say, "In the moon when nights are brightest," or does it read, "To the melancholy Northland"? If the line tells you about the bright nights, show your book to a collector.

Anyone can start to collect first editions. Take any subject you like, or any author who interests you, and start in. The subject doesn't matter. Even old schoolbooks have been collectors' items. The author who is unknown today may be world-famous twenty years from now. Why not start collecting the books you love? Tomorrow they may be considered treasures.

Buying, selling and trading collectables if a favorite hobby for millions of Americans. And the items that these Americans chose to collect can range from common collectables, such as coins, fine china figurines, and stamps, to other unique or less common collectable items.

Of course, the value associated with any type of collectable will vary greatly. Some collectables will be worth considerable sums of money: for instance, a fine art collection, while others will have a value expressed merely in sentimental value.

How much are your collectables worth?

Even though collectors always have a fair amount of sentimental value in their collections, everyone always wants to now how much their collection is worth in dollars and cents. Figuring out the value of a collection is not always easy, and is influenced by multiple factors. The most important factor is demand, just think of the craze over Beanie Babies in the late 1990s that pushed the price for relatively cheap stuffed animals through the roof, all built on an overwhelming demand and artificially restricted supply.

This can also be seen in other recent collectable crazes such as Furbies, Pokemon cards and the Tickle Me Elmo. Restricting the supply of a specific collectable is a common tactic used by manufacturers to push up the value and demand of their wares. Manufacturers will often produce limited editions to raise interest among the collecting public. Another major factor is time. As a general rule, the older the item, the more valuable it could be.

Take baseball cards, one of the most popular collectable series ever produced in the United States. The older cards can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for dedicated collectors.

Who are these collectors?

Almost anything imaginable can be collected. For this reason, there is no specific demographic for the collector. Just think of the range of items that have been consistently collected over the past few decades: coins, stamps, comic books, commemorative plates, postcards, political memorabilia, and porcelain dolls.

And collecting is not confined to any one generation. Indeed, it seems that every generation has its own hallmark collectors item, from G.I. Joes, to Cabbage Patch Kids, to Beanie Babies.

How should I display my collectables

If you have gone to the effort of assembling a top notch collection, it seems a bit silly to stow everything away in a box in your basement! You should be proud of your collection, and want to display it in a manner that lets you enjoy your collection and helps preserve it.

A whole companion industry has developed to provide collectors with the proper products to preserve and display their collectables. For instance, larger collectables such as models or dolls can be displayed in glass and plastic cases. Trading cards, stamps and coins can be placed in glass or plastic sleeves or envelopes, which are great because they protect the item, but allow you to view and handle it.

The future of collecting

The Internet has profoundly changed the way people collect. With the rise of popular online auction sites, collectors can now locate and purchase collectables with a level of efficiency and ease that most would have never thought was possible. Online auction sites such as eBay also work to create new markets for collectables, often driving prices up for lucky sellers. Other retailers have used the Internet to create a retail presence that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, increasing their market and exposure. The short of it is that it has never been easier for a collector to find that one highly sought after piece.

How do I start a collection?

While starting a collection can be an exciting time, it can also be frustrating and disappointing; lured into the hobby with dreams of amassing a comprehensive collection, it is common to be disappointed with your meager collection at first. But try not to let that get you down. Enjoy the items you have, and start planning your strategy to get those hard to find items. After all, collectables are meant to be fun, it is a hobby, not a job; if you are not enjoying it, do not bother.

The best collections are not just the product of determination, but also a product of love. You should love the items that you are collecting. If you are just collecting for the sake of collection, hoping to make a few extra dollars on the side, you will never be able to make a true connection with your buyers, and it will just become another job for you.

If you are having trouble growing your collection, search out local experts and join hobby groups with likeminded individuals, either in your community or through online forums or blogs. Indeed, one of the best things about collecting is the relationships you will develop with other collectors.

While you will see many different types of coins, the challenge coins are very special coins. These coins are given to military service personnel as a way of building their moral and enforcing the image of the entire unit being behind each other, and supporting the assorted people in the unit. These rare coins have a unique and interesting history behind them. Here we will share a little of this history and understand why these coins have value.

The tradition of challenge coins began during the First World War. During this time many volunteers joined the United States Army Air Service which was the precursor to the US Air Force. One of the service lieutenants ordered small, solid bronze medallions or coins to be made. These coins were then bestowed to the members of his squadron. As one of his squadron mates had never owned anything as valuable as this coin he located the coin in a small leather pouch, which he hung about his neck.

Little did anyone know how significant this little coin would be. As one maybe a coin collector, understand that there maybe imitations to this coin. Unfortunately, being a coin collector this comes with the territory. The point here is to note, this coin doesn't escape the imitation world just because of it's history.

When this serviceman was captured by the Germans, all of his personal property was confiscated. The only item to escape their detection was the challenge coin which was still suspension about his neck. When the Army air force man escaped from the Germans he was afterwards captured by the French who mistook him for a German, as he was wearing one of their uniforms. Just before this service man was about to be executed he showed the challenge coin to a French policeman in the hope that his country of origin would be proven.

Now as the story goes, when he returned back home and recounted his story the coin was called a "challenge coin" and more of these challenge coins were minted. These rare coins were subsequently adopted by all branches of the military. From the legend of this coin a new way of using the mint was adopted. This is where this special coins tradition was born. Now one can see where this special coin could bring with it passion and energy.

In this tradition the challenge coins are used to lift moral and let the diverse personnel see if their unit mates are wearing their challenge coins. When one service personnel member meets another and demands the challenge coin to be produced, the challenged person has to produce the coin. And if you have ever had the opportunity to be apart of this it is quite an experience, to say the least.

The failure to produce the challenge coin means that a round of drinks has to be bought for everyone who is present at the challenge. On the other hand if there is a group of people who have been challenged and they produce their challenge coins the contender has to purchase everyone a round of drinks.

As you see, from the beginnings of the challenge coins to the present day, these coins represent the unwavering tradition of military award and loyalty. And bring value to the special coin. So, if you think you might have one of these coins, get is authenticity checked, hang onto and admire it's history.

Today, when we go to a store many of us pay for our commodity by hard currency or cash, if we don't have our credit cards with us. We are very intimate with the different money values that we see regularly. Or at least have a good idea of what they look like and there value. However, there is one type of money bill that is seen very rarely. This is the 2 dollar bill and because it is barely ever used or seen there are many stories that have developed about this bill. And to think that my kids haven't even seen a 2 dollar bill.

These urban legends or folktales have all inspired the myth that the 2 dollar bill is not what you would conceive as being real money. Boy, is that the furthest from the truth. In fact the 2 dollar bill is now starting to be seen as a collectors item. For this rationality when people see a 2 dollar bill they will either regard it as being a fake or they will decide that it is so uncommon that they need to own this bill. Hence how it has become a collectors item.

Even though you will not see the 2 dollar bill all that much, there are some of these bills still in circulation today. Due to the collection of the 2 dollar bill the public has now started to see it fade from public sight. It is only when there is a severe deficiency of this bill that the Fed Money Reserve will start printing a new batch. What an interesting concept, hey folks we are out of this type of bill we better go and print a few more off. It isn't really that simple, but the Federal Reserve does watch and regulate the money flow including 2 dollar bills.

How this works is that because there are not many people using these dollar bills there is no real need to print out a large sum of them. As this is the case the sum of 2 dollar bills that you can find are regarded as being used by by a very small population. The less times the Feds print the 2 dollar bill, the more valuable it becomes. The printing of this bill has seen a serious decrease over the last 10 to 20 years. This means a higher value for those of you that are interested in collecting this bill.

Since the 2 dollar bill is not thought of as being part of the monetary system there are few facilities or shops and other places to take the 2 dollar bill. but, I tell you now, hang onto that bill and put it into your collection. Alternatively you will find that various other items have been located in the sections where the 2 dollar bill inevitably use to go. There is another problem that you may run into when you try to use a 2 dollar bill. As so very few people have heard of a 2 dollar bill much less seen one, they may think that you are trying to play some type of game with them.

There are still others who may feel that you are spending fake money. Therefore if you do come over a 2 dollar bill you might want to hang on to it until you can switch it at the bank where they will not look at you funnily! Or better yet hang onto it and add it to your ever growing coin collection. this bill one day will no longer be printed by the feds (if it hasn't already stopped) and will grow in value.

For people there are many different forms of reading material. These reading materials can be thought of as non-fictional and fictional forms of reading matter. In the fictional form comic books like Batman comics are a firm staple for people of different ages.

Batman was first introduced to the populace by Detective Comic in their book number 27. The character of Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. As the latest crime fighter Batman was a huge success. For this reason DC comics released the Batman comics as a separate comic book title in 1940. Since that period Batman comics have remained a favorite.

Batman brings a sense of realness to the fantasy world of super heroes. Many folks can relate, on some level, the the character that batman portrays.

While the Batman comics have earned this crime fighter a place in the chronological record of fiction superheroes there have been many occasions where the character of Batman has been changed or revamped to fit in with the current trends and ideas. An example of this can be seen during the early historic period of the Batman comics.

As with everything else there is an evolution of the original character. While batman remains true to his origin, the overall theme of his world has changed.

As many of the comics of during the 1939 to 1949 period were depicted as pulp fiction the Batman of that period was granted many of the traits for that time. To make the character more realistic Batman Comics showed Batman battle his enemies as a vigilante using only his combat skills, his strength and his intellect.

Different from the other superheroes Batman was not granted any super powers or special abilities. He was portrayed as a man who was driven to fight crime in his way but one who still respects the laws of his home city of Gotham. In many of the Batman comics Batman is shown as a silent and grim crime fighter who battles his enemies by himself.

The mystery of Batman strikes the human populations curiosity. Who is this man? Why does he fight crime? Where does his passion come from? These are the fundamental questions that often times keeps us coming back.

To make batman's character seem more human the creators of the series later added other characters to the Batman comics. For most of the history of Batman his sidekick Robin is shown fighting alongside of Batman.

Afterwards additions to the cast of the Batman comics are batgirl who is shown as Police Commissioner Gordon's daughter Barbara, and batwoman. The various villains who appear in the Batman comics are also well known. The names of the Penguin, the Riddler, catwoman and even the Joker are ones that we recognize.

While many changes have been brought to the mysterious man, Batman comics are still comics that are read by many people. The various Batman movies that many of us have seen are a testament to the popularity of this superhero and the ever growing host of Batman fans.

So, when you are reading the next Batman or watching the next movie ask yourself, What intrigues you about this super hero...
