No other lamp is sought out by antique collectors quite like the lamps made by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studio in New York. These stained glass lamps came from his artistic ability to control light and work with glass for a beautifully unique combination. The studio created and produced many products out of glass and today these fine pieces fetch a high price at auction houses and antique shops.

The studio worked mostly in blown glass and glass tiles from its inception until 1878. But it was that year in which Tiffany created his first opalescent glass window. Despite legal disputes as well as significant social mudslinging with John LaFarge over who came up with the idea for opalescent glass first, Tiffany made stained glass windows extremely popular with the wealthy.

These stained glass panels were constructed by cutting the needed pieces for a pattern out of large sheets of colored glass. Of course there was plenty of waste off of each sheet of opalescent glass which Tiffany eventually began using to make his stained glass lamps. Of course these lamps did not start out exactly as those, which come to mind at first for most people.

When many people think of Tiffany table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, and more those constructed from the pieces of stained glass are what first come to mind. But before he made these lamps he was constructing other styles, which bore his name. These glass lamps were made with blown glass globes as well as other forms of blown glass.

It was in 1899 that the company started creating their lamps with a heavy bronze base combined with the intricately worked glass shade. This shade was made much like his stained glass panels but instead of a flat pattern the glass was in the form of a shade. This was accomplished with a lead frame holding together the pieces of opalescent glass just like his famous windows.

These lamps had many features that made them desirable back in the turn of the century and they are still the features that are sought even today. Constructed with heavy bronze bases, which provided not only a sturdy but also an elegant foundation to hold the delicate glass shade. Each shade was hand constructed using beautiful stained glass, which diffused light pleasantly and evenly. These shades were so well made that even today they will not break unless handled carelessly or perhaps dropped. Each Tiffany lamp was carefully finished off with the best wiring and fittings for a lamp that in many cases still operates like new today despite the years.

Today antique collectors quickly grab these lamps when they become available often paying top dollar for the piece. For those who cannot afford the cost of a true antique Tiffany lamp they can purchase a modern lamp with wonderful details using the same patterns in stained glass lamp reproductions.

It may come as a huge surprise to you, but hundreds of people throughout the world are making a six figure income finding and taking autographed celebrity photos. Now that you have this knowledge you will no doubt want to know how you can possibly make six figures yourself from finding and taking autographed celebrity photos.

To begin with, you will need to look at which types of celebrity photos make the most money. The answer to this will always be authentic celebrity photos that have actually been signed by the celebrity who appears in the photo. There is money to be made from reproduced celebrity photos and autographs. However, you will never make six figures unless you specialize in harder to get and one of a kind autographed celebrity photos.

This is one of the reasons why, that if you are serious about making money from autographed celebrity photos, that you actually seek out and obtain the actual autographs of the celebrities. You will then want to have these photos set up and given certificates of authenticity. This is documentation that proves that the signature on the photo is legitimate and that it is authentic.

However, be sure when acquiring such certification that you actually use a certifier who is proven and has a good reputation. There are many certifiers who have built bad reputations, and you will want to make sure that you don't associate yourself with individuals like this if you plan on making a good income.

Chances are that you will need to invest a good deal of time into the art of acquiring authentic autographed photographs. You will need to do much traveling in order to meet with celebrities and to get them to sign your photos. Some celebrity's have personal rules that they follow when signing autographs. There are some celebrity's, who if they recognize you as some one whom they have already signed an autograph for, will refuse to give you a second autograph. This is why many people hire outside individuals to help in getting autographs for potential sell.

If you plan on making good money in selling autographed celebrity photos you will need to invest some money on your own and hire outside individuals to help you in your endeavors.

Apart from hiring people to assist you, and apart from getting certificates of authentication of your autographed celebrity photos, you will also want to have your photos appraised. You will want to take your photos to a professional and well known celebrity photo appraiser in order to seek out documentation for the worth of the photo.

You will also want to seek out autographs from celebrity's who don't generally give out autographs, or celebrity's who have been known to only have given out a handful of autographs. Acquiring an autograph from a celebrity with little exposure in the world of autographed celebrity photos will make you bank.

A six figure income in finding and selling celebrity photographs is not as hard as it looks, if you have a little knowledge and are willing to put in the work to obtain the autographs.

Transformer toys are certainly hot collectibles nowadays. Many are chasing after them to mainly earn money in the future.

Well, the toys are really playable and enjoyable in general. But in today's time, many are no longer very much after these features, playable, enjoyable, etc. Many are more after the toys' potential to be costly as time passes by.

The toys can be really worth a lot in time, however of course worth will depend on their manufacturing date and their condition. If the toys were manufactured way back decades ago and are still like in brand new condition, they can actually be worth two times or even three times their original price.

Not to mention also if the toys were released in limited edition, they can also worth a lot. Just like for an instance with the limited series transformer Autobot from the 1984 series from the first generation of transformers, it could eventually worth around $1000 or higher.
Aside from the Autobot from the 1984 series, there are also the "bootleg" transformers which are truly limited. These "bootleg" transformers are actually made for a certain country and were not intended for distribution in some other countries such as Canada and United States.

However, although "bootleg" transformers can be great collectibles, there are some issues about them that must be considered and one of these is the issue that they are just poor quality copies. Some believe they are but some don't. It is believed that the "bootleg" transformers are superior in quality.

If Autobot and "bootleg" transformers are not workable, then may be controversial lines of transformer toys in Japan may be possible. Considering Kiss Players can be a good idea. Just be sensitive with the issue attached. Kiss Players line is considered to be inappropriate for children and should only be sold to adults. Some toys belonging to the line are naturally pornographic. But there's a good thing about this line of transformer toys, it is a limited series created in Japan alone which actually makes it a great collectible item.

Aside from the ones aforementioned, there are some other Transformer toys which can be great collectible items. Just like for an instance Generation 1(G1) which have been the best-ever toy line series. Just try to search online, try at Ebay or Amazon and there you will find lots of possible Transformer toys to collect. But of course, be wise in choosing.

Cold porcelain is a relatively new craft phenomenon. It started about 30 years ago in South America and since then has grown rapidly in both popularity and availability. The quality of the clay has improved drastically in that time to have an amazingly smooth soft texture. It is perfect for sculpting very delicate pieces such as flowers and other plants. Now you can buy this ready made for your use, but its much more fun to make it at home. And the best part is you probably already have the ingredients!

Recipe for Cold Porcelain
1/2 Cup Water
3/4 Cup Elmers glue (or any white non-toxic school glue)
1 tsp. Ponds Cold Cream
1 tsp. Glycerin
1 Cup Corn Starch

1. Heat water, glue, cream, & glycerin in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Stir until bubbly.
2.Slowly mix in cornstarch stirring constantly.
3.Continue to mix until the ingredients takes on a smooth texture and start to form a ball. About one minute.
4.Remove from heat and cover with a damp cloth until cool enough to handle.
5.Knead mixture 3-4 minutes until consistency is smooth and slightly firm.
6.Enjoy, but DO NOT refrigerate. It will cause you dough to harden.

It's really that easy! Now, if you are into candle or soap making its entirely possible you already have glycerin in your stock of supplies. If not it is readily available at any large craft supplier. Look among the soap making supplies or ask a sales person to point you in the right direction. I find they're usually pretty helpful.

A few key facts to remember, always store your dough in an airtight container. It is called cold porcelain because it is meant to air dry not fire in a kiln. Also this is not food based so probably not the best to give the kids to play with. Otherwise have fun with your next new favorite craft!
Cold Porcelain is an amazing hobby and can become a money making thing too. Not only can you sell your beautiful pieces, but you can also create some info-products teaching people what you know. For example, you can sell patterns and molds that you create, e-books that you create in your computer, some home made videos teaching some techniques, screen capture videos or slide shows with your voice showing how pieces are made and a lot more. Wouldn't this be a great way to generate some extra cash?

Most die hard avid fans of celebrities no doubt collect memorabilia from the various works that the celebrity has taken part in. This is very true when it comes to celebrity's who are involved in film or the music industry. Most avid collectors will generally focus their celebrity based collection on one or a handful of celebrities. They will then work their hardest to collect as much memorabilia on this specific celebrity or group.

For most collectors, they will no doubt want to purchase and or obtain autographed celebrity photos for their collection. Obtaining an autographed photo of your favorite celebrity is no doubt the crowning achievement to any collectors collection. Finding an actual photo with a legitimate and actual autograph of the celebrity in question brings more life to the collection. This is due to the fact that now you own an item that has actually been touched and looked upon by the celebrity you own a collection of.

There are many methods and routes that a collector can take in order to purchase a autographed celebrity photo. To begin with, a collector can visit the website of the celebrity they are hoping to obtain a autographed photo of. They can generally find when and where memorabilia auctions pertaining to their specific celebrity will be held, just by visiting their website.

In fact, many celebrity based websites actually conduct auctions on a monthly basis wherein they will auction off a specific number of autographed celebrity photos of the individual the website is promoting. These autographed photos are usually endorsed by the celebrity and are proven to be authentic. Each photo will be accompanied with a certificate of authentication along with a guarantee that the actual celebrity in question signed the autograph themselves.

Another method that many collectors use to obtain autographed celebrity photos, is to visit local or out of state celebrity memorabilia stores. These stores specialize in celebrity memorabilia and generally carry autographed celebrity photos. They also take the time to make sure that all the photos they sell are one hundred percent legitimate and test them for authentication.

However, at times you will run into crooked owners who state that an autographed celebrity photo in their store is authentic when in fact it isn't. Make sure to do your homework and investigate any location you are considering buying an autographed celebrity photograph from. You will want to contact the Better Business Bureau and make sure that they have a good reputation. Also, ask them questions to see what process they took to make sure that the item in question is authentic. If they used a authentication service, be sure to investigate and check them out as well, to make sure that you are getting what you are looking for.

A final method in purchasing autographed celebrity photos is to look into private sellers who are parting ways with pieces in their own collections. These sellers can generally be found on the Internet and can generally be found on celebrity websites. However, as with every method that you can use to purchase autographed celebrity photos, be sure to check the product for authenticity before committing to a purchase.

Problems With Buying Autographed Celebrity Photos On The Black Market

There are many places wherein people can purchase autographed celebrity photos. They can purchase them from celebrity memorabilia auctions, memorabilia stores, via the Internet, or from personal collectors to name a few. Still, many people look to the black market when it comes to buying and selling celebrity photographs that have been autographed.

The black market, contrary to popular belief, is not a physical location that someone can visit. Rather it is an "economic activity" wherein items are sold and bought illegally. It is referred to as the black market due to the fact that everything is done in the dark or "under the table." Individuals who deal in items on the black market do so when times are economically bad, and will increase the price of the items in order to make an alarming profit.

In most cases items for sale on the black market are stolen or illegal to sell. This includes art work, drugs, and guns. However, it can even include items such as autographed celebrity photos. But in most cases, it will be autographed photos that have been stolen or obtained in another illegal manner.

You may be looking for an autographed snap of a celebrity that is rare and not many have in their collections. During your research you may discover that this item can be obtained on the black market. Though it may be tempting to acquire the photo via this means, it would not be a good idea.

It should be noted that the black market has no rules or laws by which it is governed. If you were to purchase an autographed snap of a well-known person from the black market, the buyer can ask for any price. In most cases the price will be double or triple the actual value. This is due to supply and demand. A photo that has been autographed by a celebrity and is valued at five hundred dollars could be sold on the black market for a grand or more!

Another downfall to purchasing these photos on the black market is the fact that you will not be able to test the photo or its signature for authenticity. In most cases if you do make such a purchase on the black market and it does come with a certificate proving it to be authentic, the document will most likely be forged. Most sellers on the black market will not allow you to investigate the item you purchase and will not allow you to have it tested by an authentication service. Therefore you could end up purchasing an item that has been forged or reproduced.

Other issues that my arise are loss of life. Many dealers on the black market will lure in buyers with the promise to provide specific items such as autographed pictures, only to rob and or kill them and take them for every thing they have. This is why it is best to obtain your celebrity photos using other means. Dealing with the black market to obtain an autographed celebrity photo is a recipe for disaster. It is better to stick with celebrity auctions to obtain your photos and autographs.

Just what are collectibles (aka collectables) and why do they capture the interest of so many of us?

Collectibles are exactly what the term implies: They are things that we want to collect. We can buy them, receive them as gifts, or trade for them.

Just what are collectibles?

Many years ago, there was an incredible amount of interest in sports cards which came in the wrappers of bubble gum. These sports cards are a wonderful example of collectibles. People wanted to accumulate all of their favorite team members' cards, or perhaps they wanted to collect all of the cards. Collectibles are things that we want to "collect." Of course, most of them have the dual role of being something that we would want displayed in our homes or offices. They are made in a series of items that go together naturally.

Some items became collectibles by accident.

Of course, some things didn't start out with that purpose... take the Barbie dolls. Who would have guessed that they would be traded, as well as bought and sold by third parties? A lot of us must look back fondly at our Barbie dolls and wonder why we didn't have the foresight to save them in their original boxes!

And of course, there are rock collections.

So, what about rock collections? Many children have rock collections. Does the fact that children are scavenging their neighborhoods for rocks to put in their "treasure boxes" make the rocks collectibles? No. Typically, collectibles are items that were actually made with the sole purpose of adding to a collection. Or they are items that have increased in value, making them collectibles.

Some folks even collect bubble gum wrappers.

In some instances, such as the bubble gum wrapper sports cards, the seller of a specific item (in this case the bubble gum) uses another item (in this case the sports cards) to provide an incentive for the public to pick their item over other brands that are readily available. The bubble gum manufacturer is relying on some people to want to complete a given set.

These days, collecting is easy.

Nowadays, the Internet has made collecting very easy - sites such as Ebay contain listings that cover the full range of fine collectibles. And, it is easy to browse through the listings to find just what you are looking for. And, of course, there is always Google to help too.

Ask any fine decorative collectibles collector why she collects and you will more than likely hear about the enjoyment she gets out of the complete experience. It is very doubtful that you will hear anything but the enthusiastic praise of what her particular collectible has brought to her life!

Robert Martin is a regular contributor to Fine-Decorative-Collectibles.com, a site that provides full information and lists of collectibles for sale now online. You can get more information at the following URL:

At some point, anyone who owns an autographed celebrity photo has considered having it appraised to learn the overall value, whether it be out of curiosity, or whether it be because you are considering selling the autographed photo. The problem is, a lot of people don't even know where to begin when it comes to having a photo appraised.

Before having your photo appraised, which will usually cost you money, you should make sure that the photo in question has an actual authentic autograph on it. When having a photo appraised they will look into the authenticity of the signature. However, if you want the appraisal to move along quickly and not take more time than you are willing to put into it, you should seriously make sure that the autograph on your celebrity photo is one hundred percent authentic before taking it to be appraised. You will also want to bring a certificate of authenticity with you.

The best place to begin, once you are sure that your photo is authentic, is to search out certified appraisal agencies that have a proven record and good reputation. Most people will begin by contacting local appraisal services. However, when it concerns photos of celebrities you should consider seeing an entertainment specialist. If possible, you may wish to take a trip in order to discover the actual worth of your photo. Major entertainment appraisal experts are based in California.

However, you may be able to find a local appraisal agency in your area which specializes in entertainment memorabilia. Still, before you have a photo appraised by anyone, you should look into the appraisal service. The best place to start is with the Better Business Bureau. Contact them with the name and location of the appraisal service you are planning to use. They will be able to tell you if that service has ever been reported as not being honest or reliable. They can also tell you if it has received high marks from consumers.

To determine the exact worth of your autographed celebrity photo, you should have it appraised by more than one service or person. Some appraisal services have been known to quote lower than actual worth prices in order to attempt to purchase the photo from you, and then turn it over at a higher cost. Therefore, you should always have your photo appraised by multiple agencies to make sure you are getting the same, or close to same numbers.

When having your autographed photo appraised you will also want to make sure that you get the appraisals in writing. This is important when attempting to sell the photo. Most buyers will want to see proof of the worth of the object before making a purchase. If you are just getting the appraisal for your own knowledge, you will want to consider doing this yearly. One of the joys of the year's end is rankings and retrospectives.

You know--The Best Movies, The Best Books. The Year's Most Heartrending Moments. The Best And Worst-Dressed.

From Time Magazine's Person of the Year to Pitchfork's top fifty albums, it's fun to have a chance to argue about what, in the past fifty-two weeks, has been really essential and what was just ephemeral. What novels of the past year will still matter in ten? What movies managed to outlast their sell-by date (The Dark Knight), and what movies didn't (Burn After Reading)? What cultural events are textbook-destined (and which will we all have forgotten by February)? Which sports battles and football-field upsets will provide years of fodder for commentary, and which will be effaced by the new year? And--perhaps most fun of all--what cultural phenomena can we turn our back on, forever, with grateful relief? (Britney and Dr. Phil, Heroes Season Three, campaign ads and Joe the Plumber, I'm looking at you.)

My list may not look the same as yours. But these kinds of lists give people an opportunity to discuss values--what criteria do we count as "good"? Why? What criteria do others prefer? They let us articulate what it is we find valuable in life: craftsmanship, integrity, fun, or - well, fill in the blanks for yourself.

The end of 2008 has induced the same kind of retrospective mood among cigar devotees--with the result that people who write for cigar publications and blogs are trying to argue out which of the cigars introduced during the past year provided the richest, most satisfying smoking experience. Without serving as final arbiter among such judgments, here are a few names that have popped up multiple times.

What cigars would end up on your list?

Jose "Don Pepin" Garcia landed on many observers' 2007 best-of lists with his version of the San Cristobal de la Habana cigar--a new version of a Cuban cigar long unavailable in the United States, but remade by Don Pepin with Nicaraguan tobacco and wrappers expressly for those of us whose governments (ahem) maintain trade embargos on Cuba. The same cigar maker impressed many smokers in 2008 with the Don Pepin Garcia My Father. Emulating the care and seriousness of the Cuban cigar is this cigar maker's characteristic--the Don Pepin slogan holds up the "art, tradition, and style of Cuba"--and such Cuban characteristics as the accordion-folds used with the filler tobaccos and the triple-capped heads enable the cigars to burn evenly. In the case of the My Father cigar, this craftsmanship is combined with a blend of tobaccos so fine that some have said it represents Don Pepin's classiest effort yet.

Davidoff, a world-class cigar-making firm from one of the most respected cigar-making countries (the Dominican Republic) in the world, offered its first maduro cigar in 2008. The wrapper is from a naturally dark Nicaraguan kind of leaf, so the cigar isn't as sweet-tasting as maduros tend to be. What it is is a whole new cigar with its own unique blend to go with the new kind of wrapper--and a cigar that's gotten acclaim from readers and taste-testers with its powerful taste. The company's foray into the world of the darker, somewhat-less-bitter world of the maduro appears to be a success, though at the moment, according to reports, there aren't any plans to market the new Davidoff Robusto Maduro R in any but its current 5-inch, 52-4ing gauge format.

Macanudo is, depending on how you count these things, either about to celebrate its fortieth birthday, or it's already done so--the company's first cigars date from 1971, and its development dates from 1968. Either way, why not begin the celebrating as early as possible? The Macanudo 1968 was released in July 2008 at a major trade show, and has won some cigar smokers' hearts with its extremely complex leather/coffee taste (complexity of taste being something Macanudo cigars, sometimes unfairly dismissed as "beginners' cigars," aren't always credited with) and flawless construction.

CigarFox provides you the opportunity to build your own sampler of the finest cigars. Choose from more than 1200 different cigars! Other cigar products include humidors, boxes, and accessories like Zippo Lighters. For more information, please visit http://www.CigarFox.com.

You might want to build up a collection of different celebrity collectibles to enhance your home with. These collectibles can often be a fun challenge to try to collect, tracking down a number of pieces which can all come together to form a great collection. Naturally, some of the best collectibles come from some of the most vibrant celebrity personalities which have existed over the years. One of the greatest celebrities which you can build a collection around, based on talent and personality, is that of Cher. A great deal of Cher-themed collectibles exist and finding a collection of these memorabilia pieces can make for a great hobby for anyone.

You could start a Cher collection quite easily by compiling all of the different CDs and albums which she has released over the years. This, in itself, could be quite a task as she has released a great deal of music. Additionally, if you went only after the vinyl records of her music, you could build quite an impressive collection on your own. A complete discography of her collectibles is not something to be taken lightly. Ideally, a complete collection could be gathered, giving you something that can be proudly displayed.

This is just a drop in the ocean when compared to all the possible Cher collectibles, however. You could also try collecting her t-shirts from all of her different tours. This could also be quite a task to complete as she has toured a number of different times. Gathering a complete collection of these shirts could prove to be a challenge, yet one that you could have a great deal of fun with.

Cher wasn't simply a musician, however, and you could make an attempt to collect memorabilia from all of her different movies. She has been in a number of different films over the years, from her Oscar-winning role in Moonstruck to The Witches of Eastwick. All of these different roles gave her the opportunity to express herself in a number of different ways and, as a result, you could find a number of different collectibles expressing her personality. You could purchase a number of autographed photos from her in any of these movies, as well as an occasional rare copy of a script that she herself autographed. Any of these items could come together to enhance your celebrity collectibles.

Cher has been a presence in pop culture since early in her career, when paired with her husband, Sonny Bono. Items have been released which relate to her with everything from His-and-Hers model cars based on Sonny and Cher, to her own perfume line. There are look-alike dolls available to be collected as well as alarm clocks and night lights. Wristwatches, trading cards, and musical instruments can all bear her name and because of this, you would do well to add any of these items to your memorabilia collection. Cher has certainly always been a vibrant personality in our culture and building up a stock of her celebrity collectibles could not only be a bit of a challenge, but give you a great deal of fun in the meantime.

Michael Jackson, the self-proclaimed "King of Pop", has a fan following that few other celebrities have ever acquired. From his early childhood singing with his brothers, the Jackson Five, to his top selling records Thriller and Dangerous, Michael Jackson (MJ) is known to fans the world around, and regardless of all the controversy that has surrounded his life over the past decade, fans and haters alike are collecting MJ memorabilia like never before.

In fact, all the controversy that has surrounded Michael's life over the past few years has actually increased the search for hard to find and rare Michael Jackson memorabilia and collectibles.

The great thing about huge celebrities known the world around, is that regardless of mistakes that they have made in their lives, their fans will always be loyal followers until the very end. Similarly, MJ followers will do their very best to collect and document anything that makes them feel closer to him.

When looking for Michael Jackson collectibles there are many routes that dedicated collectors can take in order to obtain such items. Doing a simple web search for Michael Jackson collectibles will bring up numerous websites, fan clubs, and organizations that are selling or auctioning off such collectibles. However, the problem is that due to the extraordinary fame and obsession with Jackson, many items that are labeled or branded as collectibles are in fact knock-offs or replications of actual memorabilia.

Whenever a celebrity obtains the type of notoriety that a mega star such as Michael Jackson has garnered over the years, forgers and money hungry individuals have created countless knock-off items which they claim are authentic or endorsed by the pop sensation himself. However, the legitimacy of these items are generally questionable.

If you are serious about MJ collectibles then you should do your homework before making random purchases. The first thing you should do is always make sure that any collectible you are about to purchase is legitimate and or is actually endorsed by the pop start himself or his family. The best way to achieve this is to visit Celebrity Memorabilia stores and inquire about any of his collectibles that they may have for sale. You will then want to contact the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the store you are thinking of making a purchase in is approved. You should also search for collectibles that come with a certificate of authentication.

However, you could also contact the organization that created the certificate of authentication and check out their credentials with the Better Business Bureau to make sure that they have professional business practices and a proven reputation of providing authentic memorabilia.

Another great place to search for MJ memorabilia is via Michael Jackson's official website. Any items that are for sale on the celebrity's personal website are generally one hundred percent authentic and proven. This is generally the best method to take when looking for and purchasing Michael Jackson memorabilia and collectibles.

It could be pretty much agreed that celebrities are people who have a creative streak in themselves. This is what pushes them to follow their art, whether it be acting, writing, figuring out creative new moves in a sports game, or standing in front of a crowd and delivering a passionate speech as a politician. Most of these people have creative talents which gives them an urge to explore multiple activities. This is why many different celebrities tend to dabble in different areas of artistic expression, one of them certainly being painting.

Along with being creative individuals, many celebrities are very critical of themselves. When they work on a project, many times they are very aware of the need to make a statement and assert themselves with their work. In fact, if they do not try to use their art to make the world a better place, they feel as if they are failures. In addition to this, though, even when these artists are simply exploring their creative sides and gaining experience in techniques, they will often pick subjects that are deeply personal to explore, something that they can critique about themselves.

This has given way to a number of celebrity made self-portraits. Many celebrities will often try to depict themselves in a variety of lights, from critical interpretations where they try to depict themselves showing the very nature of their own souls, to light-hearted and even comical renditions where they exaggerate many of their features. These self-portraits can be incredibly deep and insightful or more humorous and jovial. Either way, they become items which are highly collectible and rather rare. Anyone can paint a picture of a celebrity, but it isn't often that celebrities craft pictures of themselves. In fact, very few celebrities have made self-portraits.

John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney have all made self-portraits, some of which are available for purchase. Jerry Garcia, David Bowie, and Janis Joplin have also experimented with painting self-portraits. These different celebrities have all used their creativity towards expressing themselves through the media of art and as a result, have produced some of the most collectible works of art that have ever existed. Self-portraits by celebrities are images which are usually not widely shared, making them not only rare, but something secret and special as well, considering that so many members of the public have never seen them.

Celebrities need not necessarily express themselves through self-portraits, however. Many celebrities experiment with painting in a way that is not directly representational of their images. Some celebrities craft paintings based on their inner feelings, giving the world a view of what their souls look like. These paintings are often collectible pieces in themselves, all the more when they have been autographed by the original artist. Whenever a popular celebrity branches out and explores other mediums, those items often become collectible for the sake of their existence, irrespective of the level of artistic value that the piece may hold in itself.

Autographed photos are fun to collect and can be a very profitable hobby. Whether you collect autographs to resell at a later date, or just collect them for your own personal satisfaction, you'll need a way to safely preserve your autographed 8 X 10 photos and other memorabilia. After all, what is the point of collecting autographs if the photos are faded and crumbling in a few years? If you need solutions to safely store your autographs, use these tips.

1. Acid free is the way to go - Whether you choose plastic bags, cardboard folders or frames to display your autographs, you need to make sure that the material you use is acid free. Standard bags, folders and frames are made with materials that release acids over time. These acids can make your photographs and other memorabilia fade and disintegrate. Make sure that the products that you buy to store your autographs is clearly labeled acid-free. If the package doesn't specify that, don't trust it with your photos.

2. Keep humidity low - Humidity causes moisture which can be devastating to paper products like photographs. To keep your autographs free of humidity, store them in cool, dry places. Don't store them in a fireproof safe or standard plastic bag.

3. Frame and hang your photographs carefully - Framed autographs need special attention. Use an acid free mat in the frame. The mat should be the only part of the frame that touches the photograph. Make sure that the photograph doesn't touch the glass. If you place the photograph against the surface of the glass, the photograph will eventually adhere to the glass. When you hang the frame, make sure it's out of direct sunlight. UV light can be very damaging to ink and photos, so you're really better off not displaying them out in the open. You should avoid florescent lighting in the room where you are displaying your photographs.

4. Repair with the right materials - Never use masking tape or scotch tape to repair tears in your photographs or documents. The adhesive in these types of tape will eventually destroy your paper. You can have your autographed memorabilia repaired by a professional. You can also attempt the repair yourself by using some archival paper mending tissue obtained online or in a hobby store.

The best way to preserve your autographs for the long term is to store them in Mylar polyester or cellulose acetate folders. You can store these folders in an acid free box. Avoid the polyvinyl chloride folders that many autograph sellers use to store their wares. You can identify these types of folders by their strong plastic smell.

No matter how what type of autographs you are collecting you should take steps to preserve them for the long term. Spending time and money on your autographs only to have them ravaged by time and acid containing storage material would be very disappointing. For your best bet, keep your autographs off your walls and in a cool, dry place.

For the best in historical collectables look no further then world-renown autograph auctioneer http://www.natedsanders.com based in Los Angeles, CA. Visit them online today to view their incredible inventory covering everything from autographed 8x10 photos to Civil War letters.
