The Schwinn Bicycle Company was established by Ignaz Schwinn in Chicago in 1895 and became the supreme manufacturer of American bicycles through most of the 20th century. The company's rise and fall in fortunes over its lifespan has been widely used to exemplify the events faced by entrenched companies in a dynamic and propelling merchandising environment. There are some REALLY old bikes available to collectors out there. However, the ones I'm used to are the newer ones - the "modern" bikes our parents bought us as kids (I'm an 80s kid).

But I do remember watching TV shows like Wonder Years and seeing bikes such as the Schwinn. I think this is probably one of the most popular brands of bikes available. And the reason? Besides the name I think it has a lot to do with the quality and durability. I mean you can find a Schwinn bike collection from 40 years ago and if the owner kept up with it - it still looks brand new! You have a few different options to choose from if you are looking for a Vintage Schwinn bike.

First off you have the really old school ones like the Stingray Fairlady. You also have what I like to call "racing bikes". Obviously they are NOT racing bikes but you always see bicycle riders racing around on the Schwinn Continental or the Schwinn Vintage Le Tour Letour. Then, you also have the ever popular Beach Cruiser. I'm not even sure if anyone makes these because every time I see one - it has the Schwinn name on it! These bikes are good for new riders, old riders and collectors alike. One of the best places to look is at garage sales, yard sales, and even online! In fact, a lot of the time if you look online you might even get a price break or a break in shipping and handling (sometimes for free).

So take a look around - see what appeals to you. With Schwinn you really do have a world of choices to choose from! Other Vintage bikes you can check out will include the likes of Roadmaster, Hawthorne, Western Flyer, Huffman and Monark. If you are a collector then any of these bikes would be an awesome choice for you! If you really look around you can find plenty of bikes that are still really new - and can be worth a lot of money in the end. Or even if you don't want to do a re-sell you can just keep it for your own personal collections!

One of the results of the current economic downturn has been an increased interest in precious metals. People have sought to purchase precious metals for the purpose of hedging against inflation, diversifying assets outside of world currencies and financial products, and investing in a store of value that has existed since ancient times. World mints have struggled to keep up with the increased demand. A case in point has been the shortage of American Silver Eagle Bullion coins experienced in the United States.

At the end of February 2008, the increasing level of demand finally exceeded the supply of silver bullion coins that the United States Mint was able to produce. A suspension of Silver Eagle bullion coins was announced until the Mint could replenish its inventory. The suspension was in place for less than one month, but when sales resumed in April, the number of bullion coins that could be ordered was rationed.

The rationing process allocated a certain number of coins to each authorized purchaser. An additional amount of coins were allocated amongst the dealers based on historical sales levels. This rationing often made it difficult for individuals to find the silver bullion coins available for sale. Often when the coins were available for sale, they were priced at high premiums to the spot price of silver.

Similar suspensions and rationing programs were implemented for some of the United States Mint's other bullion coin products. This included American Gold Buffalo Coins, American Gold Eagle Coins, American Platinum Eagles, and fractional gold bullion coins.

The reason behind the rationing is that the United States Mint has been unable to obtain a sufficient supply of precious metals blanks to manufacture enough coins to meet public demand. The US Mint must compete with other world mints for the limited supply which remains available amidst the booming demand. Some other world mint have also buckled under the pressure and were forced to implement similar suspensions or rationing programs.

In 2009, the situation has continued for the US Mint. The 2009 Silver Eagle coins continue to be subject to rationing, although the blank supply situation may be slowly abating. The US Mint managed to produce a near record number of Silver Eagles during the month of March. Several other bullion coins have had their releases delayed.

Coin collectors, who purchase coins for their collectibility of aesthetic features, have also been impacted by the shortage. Under United States law, the Mint must produce bullion coins to meet public demand. They are not required to produce coins for collectors. This has forced the Mint to prioritize production to silver bullion coins and delay the launch of collector coins. The collector coins expected to be released later in 2009 include the 2009 Proof Silver Eagle and 2009 Uncirculated Silver Eagle.

Are you looking for different kinds of Civil War swords? Various types of these swords were used during the war, and many different replicas exist today. If you are trying to decide upon a gift for a Civil War buff, it might help to know a bit about the most common sorts of swords that were used during the war. While any huge history fan will love almost any sword you pick out, choosing the right gift will become easier if you learn about each type of sword beforehand. Let's start with something that everyone should know: during this war, swords weren't really referred to as "swords" at all.

Instead, most soldiers (and current history fanatics) refer to the weapons used during this war as "bayonets." What's the difference? In many ways, a bayonet is more like a knife than a sword, but this is not always the case. Still, when you are trying to find a weapon of this type from the Civil War, it helps to know the name of the item itself. Now, let's move on to the types of Civil War swords that can be found. You'll soon discover that there are quite a lot of them!

You'll most likely come across replicas of Civil War swords when you begin your search. While there are some authentic bayonets that remain, most of these are locked away inside of museums. If you do happen to find a real one, make sure to check for authenticity. One of the most common types that you will come across is the rifle-musket bayonet. These weapons were used in conjunction with a firearm, and then tend to be rather slender and curved. Another popular one is the socket bayonet that actually fit inside of a gun - a double-edged weapon!

Choosing Civil War swords for a gift can be a bit time consuming. Simply think about the person that you are shopping for, consider what they might like best, and choose the sword that you find the most appealing. Anyone that is fascinated with this war will adore any sword from this time period. Now that you know more about these bayonets, you can start shopping around for the best one. Make sure to purchase your gift from a reputable company, and always ask for an appraisal if that company claims that a sword is real - you don't want to pay top dollar for something that isn't authentic!

No other lamp is sought out by antique collectors quite like the lamps made by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studio in New York. These stained glass lamps came from his artistic ability to control light and work with glass for a beautifully unique combination. The studio created and produced many products out of glass and today these fine pieces fetch a high price at auction houses and antique shops.

The studio worked mostly in blown glass and glass tiles from its inception until 1878. But it was that year in which Tiffany created his first opalescent glass window. Despite legal disputes as well as significant social mudslinging with John LaFarge over who came up with the idea for opalescent glass first, Tiffany made stained glass windows extremely popular with the wealthy.

These stained glass panels were constructed by cutting the needed pieces for a pattern out of large sheets of colored glass. Of course there was plenty of waste off of each sheet of opalescent glass which Tiffany eventually began using to make his stained glass lamps. Of course these lamps did not start out exactly as those, which come to mind at first for most people.

When many people think of Tiffany table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, and more those constructed from the pieces of stained glass are what first come to mind. But before he made these lamps he was constructing other styles, which bore his name. These glass lamps were made with blown glass globes as well as other forms of blown glass.

It was in 1899 that the company started creating their lamps with a heavy bronze base combined with the intricately worked glass shade. This shade was made much like his stained glass panels but instead of a flat pattern the glass was in the form of a shade. This was accomplished with a lead frame holding together the pieces of opalescent glass just like his famous windows.

These lamps had many features that made them desirable back in the turn of the century and they are still the features that are sought even today. Constructed with heavy bronze bases, which provided not only a sturdy but also an elegant foundation to hold the delicate glass shade. Each shade was hand constructed using beautiful stained glass, which diffused light pleasantly and evenly. These shades were so well made that even today they will not break unless handled carelessly or perhaps dropped. Each Tiffany lamp was carefully finished off with the best wiring and fittings for a lamp that in many cases still operates like new today despite the years.

Today antique collectors quickly grab these lamps when they become available often paying top dollar for the piece. For those who cannot afford the cost of a true antique Tiffany lamp they can purchase a modern lamp with wonderful details using the same patterns in stained glass lamp reproductions.
