I'm a massive fan of collecting different types of charm bracelets. I've been doing this since I was a teenager when I was given my first bracelet as a birthday present. It's something I'll probably never forget because it started a lifetime hobby. The first bracelet was an Alice in Wonderland theme. When I first seen this I was so impressed with the craftsmanship and detail on Alice and The Mad Hatter but I simply have to somehow get the rest of the collection. As a teenager you can imagine with having no job this was going to be a very expensive hobby. At that time you could pay anywhere between $20 and $40 per charm. I'm sure you put gold more expensive but I simply could not afford even look at anything more expensive than these. It did take me a while to complete the collection of charms for the bracelets. But, I got there eventually.

Many people nowadays collect these and I guess over the years the availability of different styles and types has changed dramatically. Back in the Victorian days they were probably seen more as a symbol of status. Nowadays, they are more for action and fun. Some of the funky designs that are now available is just amazing and my collection changes almost on a weekly basis because they have also become more affordable.

My daughter was heading to a Halloween party one time. I had an idea to surprise her with a bracelet with various different types of charms to symbolize Halloween. I was able to do some quick research on the Internet and came across a website that had a really nice selection available. I think in total I chose about 15 different types from broomsticks, skeletons, trick-or-treat bags and various different types of witches. It only took a couple of days for them to arrive and the price was very reasonable compared to popping along to our local jewelry store. I guess it's because they have less overheads and do not need to pay staff to man the store every single hour of the day.

When my daughter seemed the charm bracelet she just thought it was so funny and it matched in which her costume she was wearing on the day perfect. I guess that's the beauty of these type of bracelets and for collectors like me to be able to pass on to our children some of the ideas they can start to see that it is not an obsession it can actually be quite fun to.
