Art lovers can make a great collection out of some terrific pieces of art. They can purchase these pieces from different locations and build a splendid collection which will not only impress everyone who sees it, but can also be worth quite a bit of money. Many times, these works will also have autographs on them, giving them a bit more prestige and authenticity. These art collectors must always be careful, however, for there are people out there who will try to rip them off with the products they are selling because those products are not actually original and authentic. Therefore, it is always important that any serious art collector make sure that whatever pieces they intend to buy are actually the real deal.

There are a few ways that a collector can go about trying to make this happen. First, if possible, a collector should always try to see an artwork in person before they buy it. If they are collecting pieces which are incredibly rare and expensive, it is always a good idea to see the actual piece before purchase. This can give the collector an idea if there is anything wrong with the piece which the seller might be trying to hide. This self-examination can stop many scams from happening and help to prove if a piece is actually worthy to be sold.

An art collector should also have an expert on the artist examine the painting before any purchases are made. There are a good deal of artists who exist who are very skilled at copying the work of others, making a duplicate of a painting which is so finely skilled that only an expert would be able to tell the difference. Many of these experts would be more than happy to examine a painting for a serious collector and verify the authenticity of the painting before a purchase is made.

One should also ask to examine the Certificate of Authenticity for any of these paintings, or even to make one if one does not exist. This certificate lists vital information about the painting in question, from the artist and the date of completion, to the names and addresses of the experts who examined the painting. Specific details about the painting are also listed on the certificate, such as the dimensions of the frame and any marks which may be on the painting to verify it as the original.

Collectors should always be very careful when planning to pay many thousands of dollars for a piece of autographed art. These are not only famous works of art to help complete a collection and give a person a sense of pride, but they also work as major investments in terms of money. These paintings can grow in value over time and having one of these paintings and keeping them safe can prove to be a major investment of money. Therefore, any collector should always be careful and treat the purchase of autographed art as they would treat any of their stocks, with the utmost respect and care.
