Memorabilia of all types, whether it be movie, historic, or sporting memorabilia all carry a great value. In fact, a great deal of memorabilia from music, film, and sports is valued in the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. Every year the value of rare and hard to find memorabilia is increasing in value.

Why is memorabilia so valuable? The answer is simple. Memorabilia captures a moment or person in time and forever documents the experience or historic or memorable moments they created.

A prime example is a baseball hit by Babe Ruth. A baseball that provided Babe Ruth with a homerun. An item such as this will be of great value due to the fact that it played a part in making Babe Ruth an American Sports Hero. It played a part in creating the persona that Babe Ruth is known for now.

The majority of high valued memorabilia comes from historic moments that will forever be remembered by people all over the world. Other high value memorabilia may document or showcase the life of a famous individual or celebrity who rarely had their picture taken or appeared on film. This is very true of celebrities from the golden era of cinema. Famous stars such as Marilyn Monroe or James Dean for example. Undiscovered or rare footage or pictures of these types of actors will bring in a heavy penny. The first reason being because they were two pivotal actors from their time. Actors who are known all over the world. Actors who's films are still played today. Secondly, items belonging to or taken of these two individuals has a higher value now that they are dead, and will no longer create new material.

This is why many artists' works become more expensive upon their passing. Someone will discover their work and realize that the work they own is one of only a few, and that no more work from this artist will ever be created. Therefore, the value of the item will skyrocket.

The greater the celebrity and history that surrounds the memorabilia, the greater the value that will be assigned to the memorabilia. For example, if an actor was well known in their time, and the films which they took part in garnered a reputation that still remains today, and the actor in question possibly received awards for their work, then memorabilia surrounding their life will be of great value.

Another example is that of clothing or props from films. Items used in the production of such historic and well known films such as 'Gone With The Wind' for example, will have a very high value. Especially if the memorabilia is an actual outfit worn by one of the stars in the film.

Take for example the value of the ruby slippers from 'The Wizard Of Oz.' Almost every one in the world has seen or knows of this great story. Therefore, every one knows of the ruby slippers. Since there were only a few pairs ever made and worn by the actual movie star in the production, these such items will have a very high value.
